Over Age Credential

The purpose of an Over-Age Verifiable Credential is to provide a secure, privacy-preserving way for individuals to prove they are above a specific age threshold (e.g. 18, 21, ...) without revealing their exact age, birth date, or other personal information. This type of credential is commonly used in scenarios where age verification is required to grant access or comply with regulations.

Subject

The primary subjects of over-age credentials are individual humans, but others like animals or pets can also hold a credential.

The identification method must strike a balance between providing enough information to verify the age threshold and protecting the subject's personal details.

Claims

A claim in a credential is a statement or assertion made by the issuer about the subject of the credential. It represents a piece of information or a fact that the issuer asserts to be true and verifiable.

The subject is older than the specified age.
